Premiere League January transfer window
Edin Dzeko was the first big mover of the January transfer window.
The big striker signed for Manchester City from Wolfsburg for an undisclosed fee, reported to be around £27m which would be a record for a Bosnian player. It is also a record fee for a Bundesliga player.
The next big move came out of the blue when Sunderland striker Darren Bent moved to Aston Villa for an initial fee of £18m.
It was a slow start to the transfer window though with the first deals being to confirm two loan players as permanent signings.
After a successful loan spell with Stoke City, Jermaine Pennant signed full-time from Real Zaragoza for an initial fee of £1.725m while Hatem Ben Arfa completed a move to Newcastle United from Marseille.
Wolverhampton Wanderers ratified a return to Belgium for homesick defender Jelle van Damme who has joined Standard Liege and Manchester United rubber-stamped their recent capture of goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard from Aalesunds for an undisclosed fee.
West Ham United brought in Wayne Bridge and Robbie Keane on loan from Man City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, while Spurs midfielder David Bentley made a similar switch to Birmingham City.
It was a thrilling denouement to the transfer window as the British record was twice smashed. Andrew Carroll's move from Newcastle United to Liverpool for around £35m was followed quickly by Fernando Torres transfer from the Reds to Chelsea for approximately £50m.
Liverpool's purchase of Ajax striker Luis Suarez in a deal worth up to £22.8m was another headline maker, while Chelsea also spent big on Benfica defender David Luiz to take Premier League player outlay to over £215m in January - a new record for the month.
The transfer window closed at 23.00 on Monday 31st January. See below for all of the latest comings and goings in the Barclays Premier League:
