Hamšík hauls Napoli into second

SSC Napoli reduced AC Milan's Serie A lead to three points with a 1-0 victory at Genoa CFC on a day when US Città di Palermo and Udinese Calcio enjoyed home victories.

SSC Napoli reduced AC Milan's Serie A lead to three points as they moved into second place following their 1-0 win at Genoa CFC.

There was little to choose between the two sides at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and the visitors rode their luck during an open second half, in which Michele Pazienza was dismissed (85), but Marek Hamšík's first-half header (25) proved sufficient to earn the Partenopei their sixth league win in eight matches. Walter Mazzari's side are now above S.S. Lazio, who travel to Juventus on Sunday, on goal difference.

US Città di Palermo's promising league campaign also continued with a fourth win in five league fixtures, against Parma FC. Though the visitors took an early lead through Alessandro Lucarelli (7), Mauricio Pinilla levelled the scores (51), before captain Fabrizio Miccoli (61) added a second and former Rosanero defender Cristian Zaccardo (89) put through his own net to seal a 3-1 success. Fifth-placed Palermo are seven points behind Milan.

Udinese Calcio also came from behind to clinch a 2-1 home victory against ACF Fiorentina, who had broken the deadlock when Mario Santana's long-range effort (31) squirmed under Samir Handanovič. The Friulani rallied after the break, however, as Pablo Armero (63) thundered in a long-range equaliser and Antonio Di Natale (80) settled the match with his tenth league strike of the season, making him Serie A's leading goalscorer.
